BANGOR, Maine – Typically, people list losing weight, quitting a bad habit or getting organized as New Year’s Resolutions. In addition to these important self improvement goals, Literacy Volunteers of Bangor asks you to consider expanding your 2011 New Year’s resolutions and help a member of our community improve his/her literacy. Prior teaching experience, foreign language skills, and/or a degree in education are not required.
Tutor training is available starting in January 2012. For those volunteers, interested in helping adults improve their reading, the classes are on a series of Wednesday mornings and start on January 11th. Those interested in teaching English as another language have classes that are on Monday and Wednesday evenings starting on January 18th. For a complete list of training dates and times, please visit www.lvbangor.org and look under “What’s Happening” or you can contact Literacy Volunteers of Bangor at 947-8451.
