“Mock” Twain confirmed to launch Big Read

Bar Harbor -

BAR HARBOR, Maine — John Pogson, a nationally renowned actor who makes a living performing as Mark Twain, has confirmed he will be on hand to help launch the Big Read in Maine.
“We are thrilled to have someone of his abilities with us,” said Jan Coates, executive director of Island Readers & Writers, a Mount Desert Island-based nonprofit group that is spearheading the Big Read with the help of the Northeast Harbor Library and other community partners.
The Big Read is a program of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest. MDI-based nonprofit Island Readers & Writers is the only recipient of an NEA grant for The Big Read in Maine, and one of only five recipients in all of New England.
This year’s book is The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. So Mr. Pogson was the perfect choice to help launch a month of activities celebrating Mr. Twain, his work and readers of all ages.
He will perform on Thursday, Jan. 12, at the Higgins-Demas Theater at Mount Desert Island High School in Bar Harbor beginning at 7 p.m. See him perform at the Mark Twain House & Museum in Hartford, Conn. on YouTube at www.youtube.com/watch?v=xGU2OPJ-j1U.
