CAMDEN – Clean Bee Laundry will host a bake sale and lemonade stand fundraiser to raise money for Safe Passage on Sunday, Sept. 12. Hosts include Liefe and Haydee Temple, ages 7 and 5, of Rockland and their grandmother Kathy “KK” Moore, also of Rockland.
When sisters Liefe and Haydee traveled to Guatemala last winter they visited Safe Passage in Guatemala City with their parents. The Temple family has been sponsoring a Safe Passage student and donating spare change found at their family business, Clean Bee Laundry, for over a year. While visiting Safe Passage, they had the opportunity to share a pizza with the teenage girl they sponsor. They toured the program site and were impressed by all the books – and even a treehouse – in the library.
“We are convinced that education is the way out of poverty,” says Barbara Davis of Safe Passage’s Yarmouth office. Saddened to learn that most children who attend Safe Passage don’t have the funds to purchase the necessary backpacks for school, Liefe and Haydee have become even more diligent about collecting spare change for the organization. With their grandmother, they came up with the idea of a lemonade stand to help raise even more to donate. “I like lemonade and I think everybody else at Clean Bee will too,” says little sister Haydee. As for big sister Liefe, she is convinced that “this will be lots of fun – just like everything we do with KK!”
