STONINGTON – The annual running of the Stonington Six road race will start off the Deer Isle-Stonington Independence Day activities on Saturday, July 3rd this year with 3 categories: 10K run, a 6.2 mile competitive run; Fun Run, a 1.4 mile competitive run and a walkers category that can walk the longer or shorter course, but is not competitive. Walkers leave at 7:30am and runners begin at 8:00am. A total of 18 prizes will be awarded including overall oldest and youngest runners, 1st island resident male and female, 1st non-resident male and female time, 1st male and female in under 21, 21 to 29, 30 to 39, 40 to 49 and 50 and older age groups. Fun Run prizes are for 1st place male and female. Sponsoring businesses are Penobscot Bay Press, Island Medical Center, Ron’s Service Sales and Autobody, Healthy Island Project, Maine Camp Outfitters, Island Approaches, Coastside Bio Resources, JT Rosborough, Inc., Registration for the event will begin at 6:30 AM at the Island Community Center, behind the old Stonington Elementary building on School Street. Maps of the course directions are available at registration. Finish line is at the Stonington Fire Station. Water stations are set up over the road course. Registration fee is required and all entrants receive a Stonington Six T-shirt.
