HERMON – Cub Scout Pack 25 recently held its Pinewood Derby on February 12 at Hermon Baptist Church. Cub Scouts remembered their motto, “do your best” as they designed, shaped, fine-tuned, and decorated their cars.
The Scouts were proud to exhibit their creations and race in the company of supportive families and friends. The event was officiated by Cub Master Scott Sforza, Webelos 1 Leader Steve Berry, and Bear Leader Peter Stokes.
The cars were judged on appearance by the Webelo 2 Scouts and awarded ribbons in several categories including Best Paint Job, Most Creative, Most Fuel Efficient, Most Patriotic, and Scoutiest.
Each car raced in four heats, with the times recorded and averaged. The Scouts with the highest-velocity cars awarded trophies were Tiger Maclaren Davis, alternate; Bear Colby Stokes, third; Tiger Caden Andrei, second; and Webelo 1 Kent Raymond, first. This is Kent’s final year racing, and forth consecutive first place win at the Pack 25 races, winning every year since he was a Tiger.
The speediest cars and their racers will compete at the Katahdin Area Council District Championships during the Scout Skills Show on March 26, at the Bangor Mall.
