BANGOR – The Maine ADA Coalition is pleased to announce the first Denis Pratt ADA Awards event held at the Gracie Theater on the Husson University at noon on July 26.¬† Awards will be presented by the Honorable Governor John E. Baldacci. In recognition of the 20th anniversary of the historic signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act, signed this very day in 1990, the Maine ADA Coalition has initiated these awards to celebrate individuals or organizations that substantially contribute to the implementation of the ADA, while championing and advocating for the disability community.
The award was named to commemorate the life of Denis Pratt, who died unexpectedly on July 7, 2010. Denis dedicated himself to the advancement of Universal Design and accessibility in all of its many facets. Employed by Alpha One in South Portland as an architect and Access Design Specialist since 1992, Denis was involved in hundreds of access design consultations and was a widely recognized expert in the highly specialized field of barrier-free design.
