Bangor Salvation Army Extends Deadline for Christmas Assistance Applications

Greater Bangor -

BANGOR – The Salvation Army in Bangor has extended its deadline for accepting applications from families seeking assistance this Christmas. Applications will now be accepted  from 9 -11:30 a.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays until Dec. 6 at the Salvation Army offices located at 65 S. Park Street. After this time, it will not be possible to accept applications because of the time needed to collect the items to give to each family.
“We’ve been accepting applications throughout November,” said Captain Tim Clark, Corps Officer of the Bangor Salvation Army. “Although we’ve had a good number of people come to us already, we are concerned that there are still families who haven’t heard that they can come to us for help. So we wanted to make one final push to reach out to those families in need.”
“According to our records, last year we assisted 437 families with toys, clothing and, when needed, food,” continued Captain Clark. “So far, we have received applications from only 126 families. Although we had one more week to go, we were concerned that not everyone would come in that time. We are certain that there are others in need of help this holiday season, so we are extending the time for applications so that they can have that opportunity.”
Applicants need to be residents of Bangor, Brewer, Exeter, Glenburn, Hermon, Kenduskeag, Levant, Orrington, or Veazie. They should bring documents showing proof of residence, proof of dependants and proof of income. For more information, call 941-2990.
