Newport’s Sebasticook Family Doctors Closes in on 200 Pints

Newport, ME -

NEWPORT – The Sebasticook Family Doctors in Newport is closing in on a milestone with the American Red Cross. The family practice started sponsoring blood drives with the American Red Cross in 2007 at Pando’s Restaurant before moving the drives to Millennium Bridal and Conference Center in Palmyra. Traditionally sponsoring two drives per year, the drive from 2:00 – 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 8  at the Millennium Bridal & Conference Center could bring in the 200th pint!

To celebrate the event, the Sebasticook Family Doctors is raffling off two tickets to this year’s Sparkle event! All presenting donors may enter to win the opportunity to attend “Sparkle 2010.” Sparkle is a charity event sponsored by the Chamber and involves a live and silent auction, a talent show, and dancing. Money raised is donated between various charities and is used to help local businesses! This is a great event that you will not want to miss! Present to donate blood for your chance to attend this worthy cause!

Not only will presenting donors be able to enter to win “Blood Donor of the Game” which includes two tickets to a Red Sox home game, field recognition, and commemorative souvenir, but also, all may enter to win Dunkin Donuts gift cards! “We have struggled through the summer months, between schools being out of session, donors on vacation, and battling the heat, that we do not want to get into fall or winter with a deficit. All presenting donors are highly encouraged to come out and donate!”

To have a successful blood donation, follow these helpful tips:
• Get a good night’s sleep before your donation appointment
• Drink extra water and fluids to replace the volume you will donate (avoid caffeine)
• Eat a healthy meal before arriving at the blood drive
• Re-hydrate by drinking plenty of fluids over the next 24-48 hours

The Community Center is located off Route 201 headed towards the high school. To schedule an appointment, please call 1-800-RED CROSS or visit www.redcrossblood.org.
