AUGUSTA -Â Gov. Paul LePage signed an official proclamation recognizing March 9th as Registered Dietitian Day in the State of Maine. Registered Dietitians are the food and nutrition experts who can translate the science of nutrition into practical solutions for healthy living. As the only food and nutrition experts licensed by the State of Maine, Registered Dietitians work throughout the community in hospitals, schools, public health clinics, nursing homes, fitness centers, food management, the food industry, universities, research institutions and private practice.
There are more than 300 RDs in Maine. Registered Dietitians have degrees in nutrition, dietetics, public health or a related field from well-respected, accredited colleges and universities. They complete internships and must pass an examination in order to receive their Registered status. Once admitted to the profession, RDs meet demanding continuing education requirements.
