Caregiver’s Fair

Ellsworth -

ELLSWORTH – In celebration of National Caregiver’s Month, the Caregiver Resource Center at Friendship Cottage is sponsoring a day-long Caregiver’s Fair at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Ellsworth from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.n Wednesday, Nov.17.  The day includes yoga classes, massage, workshops and lunch. There is no charge for any of the activities.
You might begin your day with 15 minutes of Reflexology with Michael “Mac” MacDonald, a soothing massage of the feet or hands. Michael is a Certified Reflexologist. Reflexology is a touch technique of applying pressure to reflex points on the hands and feet to soothe their related parts of the body.

Then it’s time for a workshop. Join Edee Howland for a Homeopathy and Nutrition workshop at 10:30. Edee is a member of the Maine Association of Homeopaths and the North American Society of Homeopaths, and a founding board member of the non-profit Community Health Alliance in Blue Hill. She has authored two books and has been a practitioner in classical homeopathy for 12 years.

Janet Lewis of Eastern Area Agency on Aging is offering information on caregiver issues at 11:30. EAAA offers information, assistance, support, appropriate referrals, and sometimes just a friendly ear, to anyone who is providing unpaid assistance to a senior. They provide information on community services to support caregiving, federal and state program information, education on caregiving issues, support groups, supportive individual education on caregiving issues and respite for caregivers of families dealing with Alzheimer’s disease.

Attorney Roberta Kuriloff is holding a workshop on Estate Planning and Long Term Care Concerns at 12:30. This workshop will cover how to preserve an estate while at the same time insuring adequate care for your loved ones; the importance of financial and medical powers of attorney; how to plan for children with disabilities or special needs; how to protect assets if one spouse needs nursing home care.

Eileen Dunn-Kell is preparing a delicious soup for lunch, accompanied traditional bread by Tinder Hearth Wood-Fired Bread. Eileen has worked at the area’s finest restaurants and independently for over 20 years, most recently as executive chef for the Lookout Restaurant in Brooklin. Lunch is served from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

During the afternoon there will be two opportunities to bend and stretch with yoga classes by Sally Clinton. At 1p.m. it’s time to “Breathe Your Stress Away” and at 1:45 p.m. it’s “Open Your Body, Relax Your Mind with Chair Yoga.” Sally is a Certified Yoga Instructor and Breathwork Facilitator and a Certified Ayurvedic Yoga Specialist and Ayurvedic Consultant. Sally has shared her love of yoga, Ayurveda and breath with others through teaching on the Blue Hill peninsula and surrounding communities since 1997.
