HOLDEN, Maine — There is no better way to explore New Zealand’s rugged mountains and stunning coastline than by tramping (hiking). New Zealand is home to the largest national park system in the southern hemisphere, and has preserved a third of its landscape as parks or wilderness areas. In 2007 Sam Jamke, backpacked the Abel Tasman Coast Track, the famed Milford Track and the challenging Routeburn Track, all on New Zealand‚Äôs South Island. In 2010 Sam repeated the Abel Tasman and Routeburn Tracks but added the highly recommended Kepler Track in place of the Milford. Sam will tell us about all four of these adventures, share some fabulous pictures, and entice you to travel halfway around the world to explore the enchanting land where the ‚ÄúLord of the Rings‚ÄĚ movies were filmed. Co-sponsored by the Appalachian Mountain Club, Maine Chapter. This event will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15, at Fields Pond Audubon Center. Admission is free and all are welcome.
