CAMDEN -¬† Merryspring and the Maine Daylily Society are offering a delightful day of Daylily Events from 9am to 3pm on Sunday, August 1st.¬† Wander through the colorful blooms of the Maine Daylily Society Display Garden at Merryspring Park!.¬† A culture sheet will be included and a free daylily division! Hybridizing Daylilies will show folks how to select daylily parents, use pollen, harvest seeds and keep records. Dyeing Wool with Daylilies will be presented by members of the Midcoast Spinners group, Laura Evans and Mary Bolster. This workshop will show the actual process as well as some finished wool samples. Delicious Daylilies explores this edible flower with samples and recipes. A tentative workshop is Daylily Papermaking. At Merryspring, the Maine Daylily Society will have some daylilies for sale.
At 11 AM, three local gardens featuring daylilies are on tour! Dottie Hokkanen has a beautiful riverside garden, surrounded by wild roses. Her own pretty seedlings are tucked into the varied daylily beds. She has an especially nice collection of daylilies from Ohio hybridizer Curt Hanson. Susan Shaw’s Camden Daylily Gardens is a sea of daylilies and thousands of blooming seedlings. Barbara Furey is sharing her exquisite garden which shows daylilies framed artfully in mixed perennnial borders,adding their grace and color to a beautiful bouquet of garden plants.
