BELFAST, Maine — A Tribute to Seniors Day will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14, at the Waldo County YMCA, located on Lincolnville Ave.
The events will include a broad range of exhibits, demonstrations, and presentations, in addition to screenings, drug turn-ins, and drawings. All events will be directed toward people 50 years and over.
A complete meal will be available for $5.
Each of the four 30-minute presentations will be repeated over the three-hour length of the Tribute to Seniors Day. The presentations will focus on Medicare, improving balance, building a healthy heart, and remaining safe at home.
The presenters and their topics are:
ÔĀ∂ Dennis DeSilvey, MD of Waldo County General Hospital, on ‚ÄúYour Heart Health;
ÔĀ∂ Allan S. Teel, MD, Author of Alone and Invisible No More: How Grassroots Community Action and 21st Century Technologies Can Empower Elders to Stay in Their Homes and Lead Healthier, Happier Lives;
ÔĀ∂ Karen Crum of Spectrum Generations on The New Medicaid Regulations; and
ÔĀ∂ Tamera Blades, Waldo County Y Fitness Director, on Senior Flex and Stretch for improving balance.
This Tribute to Seniors Day is made possible by a partnership among the Waldo County YMCA, Healthy Waldo County and TRIAD. Proceeds will enable TRIAD, a nonprofit all-volunteer organization that merges the cooperative efforts between law enforcement and citizens, to promote and conduct protective, social, cultural, and educational activities for senior members of Waldo County, recently estimated to be 23.3% of the county‚Äôs population.
