THOMASTON – The Thomaston 4th of July Committee is pleased and proud to present the Grand Marshals for our 2010 Independence Day parade. Riding in the parade on Saturday, July 3, will be Mr. Mason Johnson, Ms. Gwen Ranquist and Mr. Peter Lammert, all of Thomaston. These three well-respected citizens are wonderful representatives of the all that is good in our community.
Mr. A. Mason Johnson continues his long tradition of serving the town, which he began over fifty years ago when he became the youngest member ever elected to the Board of Selectmen. Currently, he is serving on the Town Budget Committee.
Ms. Gwen Ranquist sets a tremendous example of making a difference with her selfless efforts towards helping others. Although Ms. Ranquist says that keeping busy and active is what keeps her going, the committee is very impressed with her faithful dedication to the Thomaston InterFaith Food Pantry, showing up virtually every Tuesday and Thursday since the pantry was started by the ministers of the five local churches.
While Mr. Peter Lammert may feel that he just does what needs to be done, many of his fellow community members feel that he does much more than his fair share of what needs to be done. Reading through the town report, Mr. Lammert’s name appears on eight committees, from the Board of Selectmen to the Mall Christmas Lighting Committee. In addition to being active for many years on the Thomaston volunteer fire department, Mr. Lammert, a professional licensed forester, has been taking care of Thomaston’s trees since the 1970’s. The night of July 3, 2010, all are invited to Thomaston to view more of Mr. Lammert’s handiwork as he once again puts on the fabulous Independence Day fireworks display which never fails to delight one and all.
