FORT KENT, Maine — The¬† Daigle Oil Company, an energy company operating in Penobscot and Aroostook Counties, expanded their commitment as a Susan G. Komen for the Cure corporate sponsor by forming a first-time team for the Bangor Race for the Cure. In June, team DOC Propane set their fundraising goal to $10,000 with the hopes of recruiting 100 teammates to walk or run in the September 18 event. DOC launched a company-wide recruitment and fundraising campaign reaching out to employees, customers, suppliers and vendors with the hopes of bringing attention to the Race and encouraging inspiration and participation.
‚ÄúWe kicked off our campaign at the end of June and by the end of August, our team roster was growing and the mercury on our goal thermometer was climbing beyond $8000,‚ÄĚ explained team captain, Sonya Dechene. ‚ÄúInitially, I thought a goal of $10,000 was a stretch, but as September approached, it was obvious we would exceed our goal by the date of the Race.‚ÄĚ
Doc Propane raised a total of $15,488 with a dedicated team of fifty-nine participants, including two breast cancer survivors. Sally Bilancia, executive director of the Komen Maine Affiliate in Bangor said, ‚ÄúThe Komen Maine Race for the Cure is very grateful to the DOC Propane team for their fundraising efforts. They set their goals high and not only met them, but exceeded them by 40%. They were, by far, our top fundraising team this year!‚ÄĚ
Dechene explained that the campaign was not about just achieving a goal, but more importantly, about wanting to make an impact; a difference. She attributes the success of the company’s campaign to the collective efforts of all who participated, and is amazed at the incredible show of support the DOC Propane team received. More importantly, seeing the success of the 15th annual Bangor Race for the Cure event with over 5000 participants and hundreds of survivors was beyond inspirational and a reason to participate again next year.
