NORTHEAST HARBOR, Maine — The Northeast Harbor Library has a number of new technology services to offer its patrons. The Library recently acquired 2 laptops computers that patrons can check out for use within the library. These computers were purchased as part of the Maine State Library’s $1.36 million BTOP (Broadband Technology Opportunities Program) award, of which the Northeast Harbor Library was a recipient. The laptops are an easy way to begin using the LearningExpress Library, an interactive online learning platform featuring practice tests, tutorials, and eBooks related to job search and workplace skills improvement, career certification and licensing exam preparation, college entrance and graduate school admissions exam preparation, GED exam preparation, and basic skills improvement in reading, writing, and math, for all ages. The Northeast Harbor Library also has 2 new ipads available for patron use within the library. If you’ve been curious how an ipad works, or are considering purchasing one for the upcoming holidays, this is a great opportunity to test one out.
The Library is also very excited to begin offering drop-in Computer 101 classes. These are informal sessions to learn the basics of using email, social media, web browsing, word processing and more. Bring your own computer or borrow one of ours. The classes will be held weekly from 10AM to 11AM on Tuesdays, beginning the first week in December. No registration is required and the classes are open to everyone, regardless of previous computer experience.
