Mother-Daughter Team to Walk Through the Night for Suicide Prevention

Newport -

NEWPORT – On the night of June 26, Newport resident Sue Potvin and her daughter Emma Gallimore will participate in the Out of the Darkness Overnight, a 20-mile walk through Boston, to raise money for suicide prevention. The walk is sponsored by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

“We’re walking in memory of my cousin, Nicky,” Gallimore said. “He died by suicide 2 years ago. He wasn’t even 18 yet.”

Proceeds from the Out of the Darkness Overnight support awareness and prevention programs to help family members, friends and teachers recognize when someone is at risk for suicide and get them the help they need. Every 16 minutes, someone in the United States dies by Suicide. It is the third leading cause of death among teens and young adults.

To participate in the walk, mother and daughter must each raise $1000 for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. To help them reach their goal, please visit www.theovernight.org/fundraising/emma4nick or call 278-2304. For more information email ergallimore@gmail.com.
