MONSON – The Moosehead Community Chorus, directed by Ron Dobra, will present the first of two benefit concerts for area organizations on Saturday, May 23 at the Monson Community Center. This concert is the next in a series of public events being held at the Monson Community Center, formerly the Monson Elementary School. To encourage the transformation of the building into a vibrant economic and social hub, a group of Monson residents formed the Slater Group and is hosting public suppers and luncheons. As importantly, the organization is seeking business tenants for some of the space, offering space for music, arts and crafts lessons and activities and soliciting individuals and organizations to rent rooms for meetings, receptions and other one-time events. The Gateway Visitors Center will be located in the building as well, providing information to travelers on attractions in the area and a variety of services to Appalachian Trail hikers. The concert will mark the the first time for the chorus in Monson, and three of its members are residents of the town. The program will range from “nature” (“Good Timber Grows”; “The Lobster Quadrille”) , through Irving Berlin and George Gershwin and the Beatles. Monson resident Ed Hoovler will give a special, very seasonal recitation backed by the chorus. The concert starts at 4:00 PM, refreshments to follow, with admission by donation. The chorus will present a second benefit concert for the Moosehead Historical Society at the Community House in Greenville on Saturday, May 29 at 7:00PM, sharing the program with Bobby and the Gang.
