BANGOR, Maine–The Susan G. Komen Maine Race for the Cure – Bangor and Survivor Sponsor Hollywood Slots Hotel and Raceway named Joan Roberts, one of the co-founders of the Bangor race, its first of five ‚ÄúSurvivors of the Week‚ÄĚ leading up to the Sept. event.
The 15th annual Bangor race is Sunday, Sept. 18 and Hollywood Slots Hotel and Raceway is the Survivor Sponsor.
As part of its support, Hollywood Slots is hosting a reception the night before the Race for survivors participating in the Race and a guest. Race participants who are survivors can RSVP for the Survivor Reception at www.komenmaine.org.
In 2008, right before her 50th birthday, Joan was diagnosed with breast cancer and later underwent surgery.
She helped co-found The Komen Maine Race for the Cure in 1997 after Rosemary Baldacci participated in a Komen Race in Washington D.C. Roberts worked as a founding member of The Komen Maine Race for the Cure and served as one of the first chairs of the Maine Race when a handful of people met in living rooms. Since its inception, it has grown to a record-breaking 5,600 participants and raising more than $330,000 in 12010.
