Israeli Former Top Military Man Seeks Peace

Bangor -

BANGOR – J Street Eastern Maine will show a DVD, featuring Ami Ayalon, former Commander of the Israeli Navy and director of Shin Bet–Israel’s Internal Security Agency at 5:30pm on Wednesday, September 1st at the Bangor Public Library Lecture Hall. His talk was recorded in June, 2010, a few days after the Israeli military stopped the flotilla headed for Gaza. The public is invited to hear this military man talk about the way to peace and join in the discussion after wards.

Ami Ayalon has a distinguished career as an Israeli military and political leader. He served in the Israeli Navy from 1963 until his retirement from Commander of the Navy in 1996. He was Director of the Israeli Security Agency, Shin Bet, from 1996-2000 and a member of the Knesset (Israeli parliament) since 2006. He has an M. A. degree in Public Administration from Harvard University.

J Street was founded in April 2008 to promote meaningful American leadership to end the Arab-Israeli and Israeli-Palestinian conflicts. Its national grassroots program is intended to inform local communities about the need for a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. J Street gives visibility to a mainstream pro-peace, pro-Israel presence within the American Jewish community, and promotes open, dynamic and spirited conversation about how to best advance the interests and future of a democratic, Jewish Israel. It works to demonstrate that there is meaningful support available to candidates for federal office from large numbers of Americans who believe a new direction in American policy will advance U.S. interests in the Middle East and promote real peace and security for Israel and the region.
