HOLDEN – Fields Pond Audubon Center is offering a broad range of summer programs for every nature-loving child in the Bangor area. “It’s very exciting to be able to offer our very popular one-day programs and to also offer two week-long camp experiences to really investigate the world around us,” says Ruth Perry, camp director. Whether it’s ½ -day “try-it” activities for younger kids and their favorite grownup, day-long explorations of frogs, fish, mammals or recycling or week-long nature day camps, there is an adventure for every child.
“We really mixed things up this summer so that we could reach kids who wanted shorter explorations and those who wanted longer explorations,” says Perry, “My favorites are the frog and fish programs, but each staff member has a program they are in love with and cannot wait to share with kids.”
The addition of ½ day explorations are new this summer and are geared toward kids ages 4-6 and their favorite grown-up. “For children who are ready for something longer than an hour-long program, but not ready for a full day of activity this is a perfect way to learn birding, gardening or insect identification,” says Holly Twining, staff naturalist.
Exploration and connection are the goals of the camps and programs. “We’re building on kids’ natural curiosity to look under rocks, watch frogs and smell flowers as well as their natural exuberance for being outside playing in nature,” says Perry.
The kids are outdoors from when they arrive at until the end of the program – safely investigating, making crafts, singing songs, and playing games. This summer Fields Pond Audubon Center has created programs that give kids the space to celebrate the best experiences summer has to offer.
