FairPoint Bundle Up Blood Drive Slated For Holiday Week

Bangor -

BANGOR, Maine — FairPoint Communications is asking Maine residents to bundle up their family and friends and give blood this holiday season. FairPoint is teaming up again this year with WCSH-TV and WLBZ-TV, the American Red Cross and other community partners for a holiday blood drive, scheduled for Thursday, December 29 from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The drive will again be held in two different locations around the state to provide a venue for a large number of donors during this challenging time of year. Eligible donors may visit the Holiday Inn by the Bay, located at 88 Spring Street in Portland, or the Bangor Elks Lodge at 108 Odlin Road in Bangor to give blood.
“We are delighted to once again be working with FairPoint Communications, WCSH and WLBZ and our other wonderful partners to make this blood drive possible,” said Ellen Russell, Director of Maine Operations for the American Red Cross Blood Services. “Last year’s first-ever Bundle Up Drive was very successful and we look forward to another wonderful day again this year. The holiday period is a very difficult time to collect enough blood to meet patient needs, mainly because of the hectic pace of the holiday season. The week between Christmas and New Years is particularly challenging as blood donations typically dwindle. The FairPoint Bundle Up Blood Drive is going to be quite festive, with a number of giveaways and prizes. We encourage families to come and make this drive part of their holiday tradition.”

All presenting donors will leave the blood drive with a gift bag which will include a Red Cross t-shirt and other gifts. Donors can also enter a raffle to win Kindles, Ipods, Nooks, digital cameras and laptops. Prizes are non-transferable and not redeemable for cash.
Blood is used for patients undergoing many surgical procedures, organ transplants, trauma and chemotherapy. For some patients, such as the victim of an automobile accident, the need for blood is sudden. For others, ongoing transfusions are needed to sustain medical treatment.
