CASTINE, Maine — The Fourth Annual Castine CROP Walk (‚ÄúCommunities Responding to Overcome Poverty‚ÄĚ) has been re-named the Castine-Brooksville CROP Walk, in recognition of participation by members of the West Brooksville Congregational Church, who will be joining Castine resident for the Walk at the Castine Common at 1p.m. Sunday, Sept. 11.
CROP Walks are sponsored by Church World Service, a multi-denominational umbrella organization that combats hunger and poverty, and works with secular and religious organizations on a world-wide scale. One-fourth of the funds raised by the CROP Walks are returned to local communities. This year, as with last year, the Castine-Brooksville funds will be donated to the Hancock County Habitat for Humanity.
In response to comments by previous Walkers, the Walk had been extended. It will begin at the Common, proceed down Court Street to Main Street, up to Battle Avenue and then to La Tour Street, turning left on La Tour to Perkins Street, and then left again to the grounds of the Roman Catholic Church. Light refreshments will be served.
