PORTLAND – The annual Peter J. Feeney Golf Tournament was held Monday, June 21st at the Spring Meadows Golf Course in Gray. The event, which raises money for local charities, had 27 teams participating, including the championship team, The Penobscot County Bombers, consisting of Governor Baldacci, his brother, Penobscot County Commissioner Peter Baldacci, Penobscot County Commissioner Steve Stanley and Nick Carparelli. $2500 was raised for the benefit of the Make-A Wish Foundation, plus another $875 was raised to aid cancer patient Emily Rice, daughter of FF/Paramedic Paula Bernier and step-daughter of Deputy George Bernier Cumberland County Sheriff Officer.
Area merchants and private citizens donated gifts, funds and sponsored teams to make the event successful again this year. Commissioner Richard Feeney, whose son Peter, is the namesake of the event said, “I look forward to this event every year, to provide another agency with funding in my son Peter’s name, and to help others in their struggles. I want to thank Bruce Tarbox, Cherie Barry and all the sponsors and players who turned out this year. I am proud to present these two checks to such worthy causes in Peter’s name. I look forward to another year of the tournament in 2011”.
Other charities receiving funding from prior years include: Boys and Girls Club of Greater Portland, The Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital, Gary’s House, The Dream Factory and Seeds of Peace.
