STATEWIDE – The Maine Women‚Äôs Agricultural Network, a statewide organization, is offering a Whole Farm Planning course for women who have been farming for fewer than ten years. Six sessions will be presented between November 2010 and February 2011 in a classroom setting, and four will take place on farms.
The topics for classroom instruction will include: Introduction to Whole Farm Planning and Setting Your Goal, Increasing Farm Profitability, Creating a Whole Farm Financial Plan, Business Planning Basics, Creating a Marketing Plan and Time Management. Topics for on-site farm instruction will include: Soil Fertility Basics and Examining Your Environmental Impact, Land and Infrastructure Planning, Improving Land Health and Sustainable Soil Building Techniques, and Leadership and Communication Skills.
