Volunteers Wanted: Teach a person a skill that will benefit another for a life time

Bangor -

BANGOR – Literacy Volunteers of Bangor will offer Basic Literacy Tutor Training and Certification for individuals interested in working with adults who are working to improve their reading and writing skills.

The 15-hour course provides teaching strategies, adult learning models, information on learning disabilities and lesson planning. Prior teaching experience and/or a degree in education are not required ‚Äď successful tutors do have a passion for helping others and making a difference in their communities.

The course is from 9 a.m. to noon every Wednesday, Feb. 2-16 and 9 a.m. to noon   every Wednesday,  March 9-16 at the United Technologies Center, 200 Hogan Road in Bangor.

Course Fees: $35.00; scholarships available. Register before Monday, Jan. 31 by calling LV-Bangor at 947-8451 or visiting www.lvbangor.org or sending an e-mail of interest to marylyon@lvbangor.org.
