ELLSWORTH, Maine — Noted amateur mycologist and author Greg Marley will present a medicinal mushroom workshop at Woodlawnfrom 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, at the museum. The workshop will focus on the traditional uses of medicinal mushrooms and the current research regarding their potential uses and efficacy
In an age of increasing stress and health care costs, people turn more and more to healthy self-care practices in order to achieve and maintain optimum health. Generations of traditional healers around the world utilized mushrooms for their healing potential. Now western science is confirming the value of mushrooms as healing agents. Mr. Marley believes that regular consumption of medicinal mushrooms as a part of a normal diet or as dietary supplements can help maintain good health by stimulating the immune systems to better fight off infection and deal with infections already present in the body. His workshop, scheduled on Saturday, September 17th, from 9 am to 3 pm, will focus on the more common medicinal mushrooms available in our woods. He will discuss where to find them, their habitat, pattern and season of growth, their usefulness as healing agents, and methods of preparation and use.
Participants should come prepared for both fieldwork and indoor discussion and also bring a bag lunch. As space is limited, pre-registrations are required by calling Woodlawn at 667-8671.
