ROCKLAND -  The St. Bernard Parish Center will host Eliza Steele youth fasters and ambassadors will train for their fundraising march at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 2.
During the month of March, in the spirit of the RDNA Mercy Marches of the 1960s, area high school youth and friends will collect pledges for their April 20-hour fast, ‚Äúgoing without so that others may be served.‚ÄĚ Encouraging the youth fasters, community ambassadors will also spread the word and raise funds for RDNA. The youth fast will be hosted by the St. Bernard youth group, and broken at St Peter‚Äôs Episcopal Church with a celebratory supper in memory of RDNA‚Äôs founding nurse, Eliza Steele, and her mercy marchers of years past.
With requests for services continuing to grow, funds collected will help RDNA reach residents who might otherwise not have access to in-home, nursing care. In 2010, RDNA nurses traveled 7000 miles serving close to 300 residents in Rockland, Thomaston, South Thomaston, Owls Head, St. George, Cushing and Warren. Since 1929, RDNA has provided affordable, professional, nursing and community health services, focusing on those most in need. RDNA does not receive state or federal operating funds, nor insurance payments, and relies on the generosity of the community.
