Hirundo Wildlife Refuge announces Winter-Spring Schedule for 2011

Old Town / Alton -

OLD TOWN – Hirundo Wildlife Refuge invites you to join us at our family-oriented Winter-Spring Ecology series from 12:15-3 p.m. Sundays, Jan. 23 – Feb. 27 and March 27 located on Rt.43 in Old Town, only 8 miles from Old Town or Orono and 5.5 miles off I-95 Exit 197 (East) covering Old Town and Hudson.
January 23: Identify Animal Tracks
Join wildlife ecologist Bucky Owen, hailed by Old Town 2nd graders: “He made identifying leaves fun!” on as he snowshoes through Hirundo’s beautiful winter scenery, speaking about the seasonal animal and plant adaptation while looking for animal tracks
February 27: Winter Tree Identification
Learn Winter Tree Identification using twigs and other clues with botanist Gudrun Keszöcze in Hirundo’s forest communities.
March 27: Signs of Spring
Although it is technically spring by March 27, we still might have snow. This will not deter biologist Dick Andren searching for “Signs of Spring” along the trails and stream bank.
