BLUE HILL, Maine — October is the time when some popular children’s programs start up again at the Blue Hill Public Library. The weekly Chess Club resumes from 3 to 3:45 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, and is for children ages 7 and up and for all levels of skill. Snacks and chess sets are provided.
“Reading With the Big Kids” resumes its weekly schedule on Monday, Oct. 17. This program features teen (or nearly teen) volunteers who read to young children on Monday afternoons, from 3 to 5 p.m. Parents will then be free to browse the library, use a computer or chat with a friend, knowing that their children are having fun. No sign up is necessary; families may just drop in. Children can choose books from the collection or bring favorites to share. Interested volunteers, please call Pat!
The “Reader Dog” program will be back on Tuesdays, starting Oct. 4 at 3:30 p.m. Bri and her sister Gracie are both registered therapy dogs who enjoy listening to children read. The children read in a relaxed and nonjudgmental environment so that they may gain self-confidence. This is not a drop-in program—children may sign up for 20 minute slots ahead of time with Pat. For more information on any of these programs, call Pat at 374-5515.
