AUBURN, Maine –¬† The American Institute of Creative Education will be presenting 2 educator courses at The Hilton Garden Inn Auburn Riverwatch. All AICE classes are approved by the Maine department of Education and can be taken for CEU’s or graduate credit from Endicott College, Beverly Massachusetts.
“Rock Your Students World with Minerals in the Classroom” will be held on August 9,10,11. participants will learn how to identify Maine minerals and make their own collection for display in their classroom. The class includes a day long field trip to West Paris , Maine to collect minerals, explore a mine, sift for tourmaline & meet a Maine living legend – Frank Perham.
The class will do simulated classroom digs for: gems, fossils, fluorescent minerals & magnetite.
Students will create an age appropriate geology lesson with supportive materials.
“Gender in the Classroom: Teaching Beyond Difference” will be held August 23-25 and explores how gender differences in the classroom can contribute to inequities in school performance, and inequities among students that can lead to bullying. The course has three goals: (1) To help educators become aware of how we contribute to gender stereotyping in our classroom through our learning activities and materials. (2) To provide educators with tools and activities to teach boys and girls to contribute to each of their successes. (3) To create a classroom environment that encourages students to value differences.
