WESTBROOK – The Board of Trustees of Woodfords Family Services announced today the appointment of Paul A. Nau, PhD, BCBA as Executive Director. Dr. Nau has served as the agency’s Director of Programs since 2004.

“After a national search, we are delighted that Dr. Nau has accepted the position of Executive Director. He has the right blend of skills, experience and personality to lead Woodfords in the coming years,” said Betty Dix, president of the Board of Trustees.

Dr. Nau has been active in rehabilitation, developmental disabilities and related fields for over 25 years. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from the University of Wisconsin, Madison and his Master’s and Doctoral Degrees in Psychology from Dalhousie University, Halifax, Canada. He also completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship in The Department of Behavioral Pediatrics at the John F. Kennedy Institute and Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Baltimore.

Prior to joining Woodfords Family Services, Dr. Nau served as the Executive Director of Bancroft NeuroHealth’s Maine programs from 2002 to 2004. He also held other positions at Bancroft NeuroHealth, including Director of Residential Services for Children and Youth, Director of Rehabilitation Services, and Executive Director of Pediatric and Adolescent Services since 1992.

He currently serves on the Board of Editors of Behavioral Interventions, is a member of the Association for Behavior Analysis and is Past President of the Berkshire Association for Behavior Analysis and Therapy.

Woodfords Family Services is a $13 million nonprofit agency committed to the support and inclusion of individuals with special needs and their families in Maine communities. The agency has approximately 300 employees and serves hundreds of individuals and families in Cumberland, York, Androscoggin, Knox, Kennebec and Oxford counties. Services include: Early Childhood Services, Community Case Management, Family Support Services, Residential and Shared Living Services, Behavioral Consultation, Therapeutic Foster Care and Training Services.

Dr. Nau replaces Richard R. Farnsworth, who is retiring after 18 years at the helm of Woodfords Family Services and a long career in the health and human services field.

“I want to thank Richard, who has been our organization’s guide and mentor for the last 18 years,” said Dr. Nau. “Under his leadership, Woodfords has grown from an agency struggling with changes in the service delivery system to one of the largest and most respected human service providers in Maine. It is an honor to follow in his footsteps.”
