UNION – Results of the annual wine competition at the Eastern States Exposition, also known as The Big E, were announced last week. Sweetgrass Farm Winery and Distillery, competing against wineries from across New England and New York State, received one of the top awards, Best Wine from Maine. Sweetgrassâ€™ Apple Wine, made from heirloom apple varieties grown on their farm, took top honors with a Gold medal and Best Maine Wine award. The judges commented that the apple wine had a beautiful nose, crisp full apple flavors, and was nicely balanced.
Silver medals were awarded to Sweetgrassâ€™ Cranberry Apple Wine, Cranberry Smash, and Peach Smash. Peach Wine and Blueberry Smash won Bronze medals. Sweetgrass Farm Winery and Distillery produces wines and spirits with a distinctive Maine character on the farm in beautiful Union Maine. You can stop by for a tasting, tour, picnic, and hike every day from 11 a. m. to 5 p. m. through December 31.
