MDI Hospital wins ninth consecutive patient satisfaction award

BAR HARBOR, Maine — Mount Desert Island Hospital is now the only hospital in the nation to earn the Overall Best Performer Award for patient satisfaction for nine consecutive years. The Overall Best Performer Award is earned by scoring in the top five percent in the nation in patient surveys conducted by Avatar International, a national hospital patient consulting firm.

“To win this award for nine years running shows that our commitment to excellence is omnipresent throughout the organization,” said MDI Hospital President and CEO Art Blank. “Achieving the highest quality outcomes at every level of care is paramount to this hospital and the MDI community as a whole. This survey is affirmation that our patients are experiencing this commitment to quality.”

The award is presented to top facilities in Avatar’s national database with the highest overall, combined score for Inpatient, Outpatient, Emergency Department, and Ambulatory Surgery. The Overall Best Performer Award recognizes high performing facilities that demonstrate consistency of experiences by patients throughout the organization for care.

In addition to the Best Overall Award, MDI Hospital’s Emergency Department received Avatar’s Five Star Service Award for 2010. This national award is presented to the facility with the highest score for a particular patient type in Avatar’s national database.

The Hospital also once again received the Avatar Award for Exceeding Patient Expectations as a result of 2010 patient surveys. “With a bar that is already set high, it is rewarding to see that our staff continues to impress our patients and exceed their expectations,” Blank said.

MDI Hospital has won a total of 22 Avatar awards in the past 10 years representing exceptional overall performance, meeting and exceeding patient expectations, improved outpatient services, innovative communications, patient loyalty, and emergency services. “These awards are a direct reflection of the innovative and dedicated staff that are the MDI Hospital Organization and demonstrate that the commitment to quality is present from the boiler room to the operating room and everywhere in between,” Blank said.
