BELFAST—At one end of the line, home birthing has become more prevalent in recent years. It’s only “natural” then that at the other end of the line, home funeral preparations might also become more prevalent. This trend has been called “Green Burial.”
Eva Thompson, a board member of the Funeral Consumers’ Alliance of Maine, will compare the financial and environmental costs of different types of burials at a program from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 8 at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Belfast, 137 Miller St., behind the library. Such procedures can include washing and dressing of the body, and burial—either in a Green Cemetery or on property at home.
The presentation, which is free and open to the public, will include information on Maine’s two Green Burial cemeteries. Ms. Thompson also is a member of Last Things (www.lasthings.net), which provides information and resources on such arrangements.
