BAR HARBOR – Bar Harbor Bank & Trust in partnership with its employees and directors donated $11,554 through the bank’s Community Commitment program during 2010. The local non-profit organizations receiving these funds included: Mount Desert Nursing Association, Memorial Ambulance Corps., Faith In Action Community Connections, The Next Step, Eastern Area Agency on Aging Meals on Wheels Program in Washington County, The Ark Animal Shelter, SPCA of Hancock County, Make-A-Wish Foundation, Cherryfield Public Library, Quoddy Bay Children’s Center, Acadia Family Center, Bar Harbor Food Pantry, American Cancer Society (through Bar Harbor Bank & Trust’s Relay For Life team “Banking on a Cure”), First Congregational Church Dolly Fisher Fund, and First Baptist Church Fuel Assistance Program.
Each week, Bar Harbor Bank & Trust directors and employees, in exchange for being able to dress casually on Fridays, voluntarily contribute to a charitable fund that disburses gifts monthly to local non-profit organizations. This employee-driven donation program is called Community Commitment. The Bank matches the employee donations, doubling the amount given to the chosen non-profit organization. Each month the employees at a different bank location get to choose the recipient of these contributions.
